About the South Bay and Chula Vista Kayak Adventures

Unlike the busy and crowded water ways of more well known locations in the area, the South Bay is a beautiful, peaceful, underestimated part of San Diego.

You can choose to embark on a quick 1 hour paddle, or work with our staff to coordinate a longer Adventure to include a guide and private 'bring your own' picnic lunch to enjoy on a sandy shore. We are happy to accommodate your schedule!

Shorebirds, and Raptors, and Turtles, Oh My!
When you kayak with us, you're put in the driver's seat of first hand wildlife exploration. The South Bay is home to many different species of shore birds and raptors (Osprey, Kites, Harriers) and many of our guests have been treated to a rare sight: one of our local Pacific Green Sea Turtles! The Bay is home to a group of around 60-80 Pacific Green Sea Turtles which forage on eelgrass year round.

South San Diego Bay is also an important part of the Pacific Flyway which is used by birds during the changing seasons. At any time of the year, though, you will see many types of shorebirds and birds of prey in their natural habitat.

All guests are asked to read and sign a liability wavier which you can print out and bring with you or we will provide at the time of rental.

Getting there:
Just a few minutes South of Downtown San Diego, take the J. Street Marina exit off of I-5. Head west towards the bay and follow the signs for the boat launching ramp (turn will be to your left). The boat launching ramp is located at 975 Marina Way, Chula Vista, Ca.91910

We will meet you at J St. Marina launching ramp at your designated rental time. You are expected to report back at the 'J' St. marina at your designated time.  All kayaks will be returned at that point. We accept cash and checks.

Phone 619-422-3600 for reservations or information about tours and group rentals.

Also in the Area: Typical of south San Diego Bay are salt marshes, mudflats, salt flats, ponds, and shallow water channels. The Sweetwater Marsh Refuge is located nearby and is best viewed from the Living Coast Discovery Center. The Discovery Center is a educational living museum with many programs and exhibits. Please visit their website for more information www.TheLivingCoast.org or call them at (409) 619-5900. They are located at 1000 Gunpowder Point Dr. Chula Vista, CA 91910.
